Dairy, Egg, Soy and Peanut/Tree Nut Free Chocolate Chip Cookies

As a child, there was nothing better than coming home from school to the smell of a batch of freshly baked Chocolate Chip Cookies.

I wanted to carry on the family tradition. However, whipping up a batch for my own children with food allergies created a challenge. My eldest son is allergic to the dairy,eggs and traces of peanut/tree nuts found in the ingredients.

I was disheartened when I initially went in search of a dairy and peanut/tree nut free bag of chocolate chips.(including traces of)

It was a very happy day in the Hawrylow household when a bag of dairy and peanut/tree nut free chocolate chips passed through our doors and were transformed into the much desired cookies of all…. Dairy, Egg and Peanut/Tree Nut Free Chocolate Chip Cookies!

A bag of Enjoy Life and Guardian Angel Chocolate Chips

I have ordered Dairy and Peanut/Tree Nut Free Chocolate Chips from Guardian Angel and can now purchase Dairy and Peanut/Tree Nut Free Chocolate Chips from Enjoy Life at  major grocery and health food stores. (note that Guardian Angel Chocolate Chips are not soy free)

Dairy, Egg, Soy and Peanut/Tree Nut Free Chocolate Chip Cookies

Pure Vanilla, Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips, batter and flour mixture

I am not sure of the original recipe’s origin. 

3/4 cup Earth Balance (dairy free margarine)
1 1/4 cups lightly packed golden brown sugar
4 tbsp water
2 tsp pure vanilla
1 3/4 cups all-purpose unbleached flour
1 tsp salt
1 1/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 cup dairy and peanut/tree nut free chocolate chips (Guardian Angel/Enjoy Life)

In a large bowl, cream the dairy free margarine and sugar until light and fluffy.

Earth Balance and sugar creamed

Beat in water and pure vanilla. Making sure all the liquid is incorporated into the creamed mixture.

In a separate bowl, mix the flour, salt and baking soda
Slowly stir in the flour to the creamed mixture.
Stir in the chocolate chips.
Drop a heaping tablespoon of dough on a cookie sheet covered in parchment paper or silicone baking pad.

Bake at 375 F for approximately 10 minutes. Makes approximately 36 cookies.

P.S. This batch of Dairy,Egg,and Peanut/Tree Nut Chocolate Chip Cookies were baked especially for the students in Matthew’s Grade 8 class for my presentation on ‘Safe Buddies for Anaphylactics’.
